The weather is cooling down and the Easter holiday is upon us, which leads us to one thing - overindulgence.
A spike in refined sugar and comfort food can lead your skin to become dull, sluggish and tired (not to
mention those dam post-choccy blemishes!). It’s likely you have heard about detox diets, that aim to cleanse
waste and impurities out of the body and restore energy. Well, this is possible for your skin too. We put
together simple steps to detox your skin over the holiday time and to help restore it’s natural beauty and
radiance.
Tip One: Up the water intake 💧
Obvious, yes. Important, double yes. Drinking water flushes toxins from your body, as the kidneys use water to
get rid of certain waste products. If you aren’t drinking enough water, your poor kidneys won’t have enough
fluid to do their job properly and the body would be holding in toxins instead of expelling them. Eek! And
here is an important rule of skincare - what you put inside really does affect the outside. Drinking eight
glasses of water a day will help your skin feel fresh again.
Tip Two: Mask the damage (kind of) 🙈
We don’t mean with makeup, we will get to that next. A great way to detox the skin is with a natural face mask
to help pull impurities and waste materials out of the skin. Clogged pores and dull skin? This step is for you.
Try our Exfoliant & Mask. This versatile product acts a 2 in 1, and performs both as an exfoliant and a weekly
cleansing mask. The creamy scrub gently removes dead skin cells, dirt & grime (yes please) plus acts as
the perfect 10 minute facial in a jar. The naturally derived ingredients leave the skin revitalised, smoother,
brighter and softer - while also helping to reduce and redness. Magic!
Tip Three: Take a break from makeup 🙅
Although it may be tempting to cover any evidence of a sugar blow out, your skin needs to breathe. Makeup
will only work to clog your pores and irritate the skin further. Give your skin a break, and rock the au-naturel
bare face whenever you can.
In desperate need of some coverage? Try mixing a natural powder based foundation (we love Eco
Minerals) with our Hydrating Lotion. Our lotion mixes perfectly into tinted makeup, and will
give your skin a fresh burst of nutrition from Hempseed Oil and antioxidant goodness of Davidson
Plum. The lightweight formula will allow your skin to breathe and is gentle enough to use any time you
need a hydration boost.
Got some serious zits you don’t want to show the world? Don’t worry, we have you covered. Try our
Blemish Gel that instantly reduces inflammation and redness. Yep, it’s that good. A blend of Tea Tree
Oil and Willow Bark exact penetrates deep to gently cleanse pores and reduce inflammation without
over-drying skin. Fun fact? In works on mozzie bites too!
Tip Four: Double Cleanse 🚿
It may sound silly at first, but stick with us. The first cleanse will target and help remove makeup products
from the day - while the second cleanse (and most vital) allows your cleanser to reach and clean deep into
the pores.
Try our Gel Cleanser that gently cleanses and rids pores of dirt, oil and makeup, while never trying the skin
out. Plus, Tea Tree Oil provides antiseptic properties that let you wash away germs, grime and bacteria that
can cause blemishes.
Tip Five: Exercise 💪
So we all know exercise is good for you, but here’s another reason to move more - regular exercise is one of
the keys to healthy skin. By increasing blood flow, exercise helps nourish skin cells and keen them vibrant.
Blood carries oxygen and nutrients to working cells throughout the body, and also helps carry away any
waste products. So pretty much, its like cleansing your skin from the inside.
Tip Six: Try to cut out refined sugar 🚫
Processed foods, dairy and refined sugar all contribute to the clogging of pores and stressed skin. We
believe you deserve to treat and enjoy yourself this Easter, so why not try swapping the classic dairy milk for
a healthy vegan alternative. We love Loving Earth’s Vegan Cashew Mylk Chocolate & Dark Chocolate.
Your skin will also appreciate alkaline rich fruits and veggies, as well as healthy fats like avocados and nuts
- so make sure you keep these in your daily intake. Another great tip is adding a scoop of activated
charcoal into your morning smoothie. Charcoal binds to toxins and flushes them from your body, making it
a great detoxifier.
Tip Seven: Sleep 💤
Believe it or not, a lack of sleep is a legitimate cause for pimples. Stress and tiredness lift the natural
testosterone and cortisol levels in the body, both of which are causes of dreaded acne. So make sure you
are taking time to relax and get some sweet sweet shut eye. Turns out getting your beauty sleep is a
legitimate thing, and we aren't complaining.
