NSW Makes a Move in Banning Single-Use Plastics

Big changes are happening in NSW! Following the lead of WA and SA, our home state, where Byron Bay Skincare is proudly made, is stepping up to ban several single-use plastic items used for packaged food and drinks.

Starting last month, paper and cardboard plates and bowls with plastic linings or coatings are no longer allowed.

And from 1st January 2025, the following items will join the list of banned plastics:

  • Expanded polystyrene (EPS) cups containing dry noodles or soup powders sealed by machines.
  • Plastic spoons sealed inside snack packs.
  • Plastic straws attached to juice boxes.

This is an exciting step forward in the fight against plastic pollution and towards a more sustainable future. At Byron Bay Skincare, we’re all about protecting our beautiful planet and fully support this initiative.

But we know change can feel tricky at first, so we’re here to help! If you’re planning a picnic, you can ditch the single-use plastics with these eco-friendly ideas:

  • Reusable Plates and Cutlery – Opt for lightweight bamboo or stainless steel sets. They’re portable, durable, and can be reused endlessly, making them perfect for picnics.
  • Mason Jar Salads – Layer your favourite salad ingredients in a mason jar for a chic, waste-free meal.

    • Sandwich Pouches – Ditch cling film and pack your sandwiches, snacks, or cheese in reusable Food Pouches. They keep food fresh and are easy to clean.
    • Reusable Water Bottles – Replace single-use plastic bottles with glass or stainless steel alternatives to stay hydrated sustainably.
    • Cloth Napkins – Add charm to your picnic while staying eco-friendly with washable cloth napkins. They’re practical and stylish.

    • DIY Snacks – Whip up your own granola bars, popcorn, or trail mix, and store them in reusable containers for a zero-waste treat.

    • Reusable silicone pouches – Perfect for little ones, fill with your baby’s favourite smoothies or purées for a mess-free, convenient snack on the go.

Small changes like these can create a big impact. We're all on this journey together, and every step in the right direction brings us closer to a more sustainable future.
