Cosy Things to Do While You’re Waiting for Summer

Let’s be honest: the last few months have been freezing, especially if you’re in the southern parts of Australia. While most of us are already counting down the days until summer, winter still has a little magic left to offer.

Before spring sneaks up on us, here are a few beautiful things you can do, and maybe even enjoy more, while it’s still cold outside:

🔥 Make a Bonfire & Cook Something Cosy

Bonfires just hit different in winter. Grab your mates, a few blankets, and sit under the stars with something warm and delicious by the fire.

Cook up some classic damper — a simple Aussie bush bread made from flour, water, and a pinch of salt. Wrap it around a stick or bake it in foil in the coals, then enjoy with butter, honey, or golden syrup.

Want something sweet?
Try campfire banana boats — slice a banana (peel still on), stuff it with chocolate and marshmallows, wrap it in foil, and let it melt into gooey goodness in the fire.

💅🏽 Host a Wellness & Movie Night

Nothing beats a night in when it’s freezing outside.
Think face masks, DIY manis and pedis, and hot drinks inspired by European winters: Like German Glühwein (mulled wine), Austrian hot spiced apple juice, or rich French-style hot chocolate.
Pick your favourite feel-good film, light some candles, and have a cosy night with your friends.

😌 Do Nothing (Seriously.)

Winter is made for guilt-free laziness. Sleep in. Stay in your robe. Cancel your plans.
Read a book, stare out the window, take a long shower, whatever makes you feel grounded.
✨ Extra points: ban your phone for the day and let your mind truly rest.

🎨 Make a Vision Board

Cold days = the perfect time to dream big.
Print out images or dig into some old magazines and start cutting.
Create a board full of the energy you want to bring into spring and summer. Colours, textures, words, places.

🧶 Pick Up a Granny Skill

Winter is slow-living season, so why not try a cosy craft?
Knitting, crochet, sourdough, candle-making or sewing. You might surprise yourself with how nourishing it feels to create with your hands.

And Remember…

You don’t have to love the cold to enjoy what winter brings. It’s a season of slowing down, resetting, and doing the little things that often get lost in the busyness of summer. So instead of rushing through the last few chilly days, lean into the cosiness, the rituals, and the quiet moments that winter offers.

Because sometimes, the slow seasons are the ones that restore us the most.
